Fall 2019 Clean Energy Wrap-up!

By Channa Childs

As 2019 draws to a close, Georgians have a lot of environmental victories to celebrate! As we continue to build on our 100% clean energy progress across the state, and particularly in Savannah, we can expect a lot in 2020.

In September, we began working with a great team of Environment Georgia interns from Savannah State, Georgia Southern, and SCAD that in a few short months published editorials in the Savannah Morning News here and here, gathered photo petitions, held informational panels on their campuses and coordinated our Honk-a-Thon on Election Day to drive people to the polls and remind them about 100% Savannah.

We’ve also:

  • Celebrated passage of the Clean Energy SPLOST in Athens.

  • Started to build a 100% Savannah coalition that is now 14 strong including Namaste Savannah, Civvies, and Zunzi’s Savannah!

  • Presented the story of local level success at the Georgia Climate Conference with Mayor Eady, Commissioner Denson and Sustainability Directors from Atlanta and Savannah Shelby Buso and Nick Deffley.

  • Watched as a new Savannah City Council and Mayor were elected (many have shared their support for a 100% clean and renewable Savannah!).

Finally, we are growing 100% Savannah’s social media presence through the @100_SavannahGA twitter account I'm running--give us a follow for more regular updates!

Thank you for your continued support of Environment Georgia!

Have a Happy New Year!
